One of the main reasons I made this site was to have the characters section. I love my gang of OCs, and I wanted a way to share them with the world beyond just stories and art. I thought making what amounted to a tiny wiki about them would be fun.
Except. Every time I added a new entry, I sort of hated the writing process. Describing their backstory and personality traits felt so awkward and stiff. These were characters I'd fallen in love with, and I felt that this process totally stifled their distinct voice in favor of bland, functional writing.
I also had to consider - who's actually reading these? One of the downsides of RSS is I don't have any real feedback on the things I create, unless someone directly emails me about it. But if I wanted these pages to be an introduction to these characters, something to hook a new reader and get them invested... a wiki hardly seems like the right way to do it.
The most fun I had writing those pages were the ones that screwed with the format, like JNFR, where it did allow the characters to speak more on their own. So, I decided after writing Ru-B's page that I wanted to break away from the wiki format and do something else.
I'm not exactly positive what, yet, but I've cleared out the body of every character page and plan on putting something more interesting in there. I'm thinking short stories, but we'll have to see. It still needs to serve as a solid introduction to who they are, but I know I want to make a stronger first impression. Hopefully it'll be worth the wait.
If you want to access the old pages, they're archived at /characters-old.
