php2shell Outage Gallery
Published October 21, 2026If you haven't heard, php - an old bit of software that runs a good chunk of the internet, is under attack from a serious vulnerability. In short, people realized there's an exploit they could use to run arbitrary code on any site that uses PHP.
sciman.info is a static site and isn't vulnerable to this attack, but many sites are. The good news is a patch has been deployed, and many site admins are in the process of updating their websites.
As that happens, most sites are experiencing downtime while they work on updating their systems. To be transparent to users, a little message is usually shown - either on top of existing content, or as a complete replacement for the site itself. I thought it might be interesting to catalog some of these, for historical reasons. I can't guarentee every one of these is directly caused by php2shell - they are, at the very least, suspicously well-timed to a world-affecting bug.

If you have more examples, shoot me an email and I might add them.
And take this as a reminder to support the many open-source, often unthanked projects that keep the modern web functional.
